Patient satisfaction

Quality of care means high-quality treatments in an environment that provides maximum support, warmth and clarity. Your well-being and satisfaction are important to us. We welcome your feedback as to how you experience your treatment , from patient intake to follow-up after the end of treatment. We may also invite you for an interview by phone, or for completing a questionnaire. Typically, more than 90% of the responders are satisfied or very satisfied.

To minimize the impact of our treatments on the everyday life of our patients we host a satellite (photon therapy) clinic in Emmen. We outperform the NVRO norms (Dutch Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology) regarding the maximum time between patient referral and the start of treatment.

Advanced radiation technologies

Our department houses modern linear accelerators to apply external beam photon therapy to both deep-seated and superficial tumors. We offer advanced photon radiotherapy treatments such as intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT) and adaptive radiotherapy (ART). We have a proton therapy department, housing two treatment rooms, to offer state-of-the-art intensity-modulated proton therapy to those patients that will benefit from this treatment. And we have two so-called afterloaders supporting our brachytherapy program.

All radiation treatment plans are custom-tailored to the patient specific geometry of the tumor and surrounding healthy organs. By keeping a close watch on this changing geometry, we can adapt the treatment plan when necessary, thereby minimizing the risk of side effects.

Quality and Safety

We have a strong focus on quality and safety. Our department is fully certified according to national and international norms and standards (ISO 9001 and VMS-NTA 8009). This applies to all our core tasks such as patient care, education and training, scientific research, information safety and our safety management system. We participate in external audits and implement improvements when indicated. We hold internal audits and we track and analyze incidents according to the PRISMA methodology.

The convenant Safe Application of Medical Technology in a Hospital Setting (“Veilig toepassen van medische technologie in het ziekenhuis”) has been fully implemented as of 2015. This ensures the application of a safe product by a trained user in a safe environment.

Our commitment to training and education

We are committed to fostering an environment that promotes the education and training of future leaders in the field of radiation oncology. We share our knowledge and experience through our residency programs, internships and scientific meetings. Read more about our training and education here.

Cutting edge research

The Netherlands is at the forefront of clinical research and new technical developments in radiotherapy. It is our specific aim to introduce and further develop state-of-the art technologies and to prove their efficacy in a clinical setting. Read more about our research here.
