Our multi-disciplinary approach

We discuss all lung cancer patients in a weekly multi-disciplinary meeting, attended by specialists from the departments of radiology, radiotherapy, pulmonology, nuclear medicine, (thoracic) surgery and pathology. For each patient, the team discusses the best treatment approach. If necessary, additional imaging and other diagnostics may be requested.

Most of our treatments can also be received at our treatment location in Emmen. For an optimal treatment, we will acquire a 4D-CT scan. This allows us to determine and take into account breathing-induced motion of the lungs and the tumor. During treatment delivery we regularly acquire cone-beam CTs to validate the accuracy of treatment delivery.

Proton therapy

As of January 2018 we offer proton therapy for selected indications. Proton therapy is not yet available for patients within the Thoracic Program. In the near future we may offer this treatment to selected patients.

Follow-up

We have an on-going follow-up program for all lung cancer patients who have received radiotherapy. At predetermined intervals, we contact patients by phone to track the late side-effects of the administered radiation therapy.

RARESTEM/Organoid study
In collaboration with the department of thoracic surgery.

CLARIFY-studie
With this study we investigate whether radiotherapy leads to increased blood pressure in the pulmonary artery and whether this affects heart function. We hope that in the future we will be able to better predict the risk of this side effect and to treat it.
