Teaching proton therapy

Teaching proton therapy

14 August 2018

Proton therapy is special for many reasons. One of these is the unique patient selection method called ‘model-based selection’.

Model-based selectioin means that patients are selected to receive proton therapy if a significant and relevant reduction in late complications is expected, when compared to application of the more common photon therapy. Many national and international organizations contact us to be educated in this unique selection method.

Teaching lectures have been attended by students of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFSMA-Groningen), by members of the Dutch National Medical Students Organization (LSMO) and by international students attending the Summer School Oncology in Groningen. These Summer School Students also received a tour of our proton therapy center.
